Laughter

My first piece of the year. Based on a prompt listed at the bottom, as the last line. Enjoy.

~1994~
Two blonde children, at most five years old, run around the park, tripping in the grass, and sliding down the slide. Their time is up for playtime, and they beg for more. Their babysitter gives in, giving the children just ten more minutes to play.
When one child slips and hits her head on the play equipment, the first one to react is her friend. He wipes her tears away, and smiles at her. The tears disappear, and in minutes both children are lying in the grass, giggling over nothing.
The joys of childhood innocence.

~2000~
'Happy 11th Birthday to Alyssa and Kyler' the cake read in dark green piping. The kids favourite colour. The two birthday children had known each other since birth, both their mothers having their children the same day. The women had been friends before, and promised that their children would grow up together.
Alyssa got the first piece of cake, since Kyler refused to have it, since it was suppose to be ladies first. She waited patiently for Kyler to get his piece, then tapping him on the shoulder, she got her cake ready. The moment that Kyler turned around, the cake was launched into his face. Shock registered on everyone's faces, except for Alyssa, who started laughing. Kyler followed her example a few moments later, just as he shoved his cake into his best friend's face.

~2008~
At nineteen, they were closer then ever, having been dating since they were fifteen. They were suppose to be getting married in a couple months. Alyssa wanted the wedding to be done before anyone noticed anything different about her. Kyler agreed, only wanting her to be happy.
The day of the wedding was the best night of their lives. Surrounded by friends and family was all they wanted. Laughter sounded during their best man's speech. And tears appeared when Alyssa's father made his. Laughter was the highlight of the day.

~2009~
A healthy baby boy, named Trevor, was born just weeks ago. Alyssa quit her job to take care of him, which as it turned out was a full time job. Kyler worked as a cook at a local restaurant, as well as going to night school. Life was hard, but they were happy.

You don't see it coming. It happens before you realize what happened. Drivers don't always pay attention to the road when driving, especially drunk. A flash of blonde hair, and a loud bump. That's all that it takes. Screeching tires as the driver rushes away, not wanting to get caught. Had they stopped, he would have lived. Instead, blood stained the road, Kyler thinking of his wife and baby at home. Praying that they would survive, that they wouldn't cry for him.

She laughs at first when she hears. It can't be true. He can't be dead. The information processes through her head, and finally she breaks down and cries.

Laughter can heal everything. Except for death.

Welcome

So, at the beginning of the year, I made a resolution to improve my writing. And I'm only just getting started now, since life happens to be a bitch right now.
From now on, once a week, I will be posting something new here, and maybe more often than that. Whether it's fanfiction, or original, I'll be posting here. As well as on my fictionpress account.
I hope any of you who find your way here enjoy my writing. :)
